Leanorah lands retail job through Indigenous employment program

May 21, 2026

The Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP) in collaboration with GTNT Group, had the opportunity to work with Leanorah Williams, who was referred to ISEP from her brother who is a current ISEP participant.

Leanorah has achieved a positive employment outcome, having successfully secured casual employment with Coles Supermarket, commencing in early April.

Following the completion of Year 12 at Worowa College in Victoria last year, Leanorah engaged with ISEP to explore employment pathways and develop workplace readiness skills. This support focused on career planning, resume development, preparation of employment documentation, interview preparation, and confidence building to support her transition into the workforce.

During this period, Leanorah identified a strong interest in customer-focused roles, particularly within retail and youth-related sector.

Leanorah was supported to attend Bamara Employment Services as a Transition To Work (TTW) participant, where together with her Employment Consultant, she completed online onboarding and compulsory training modules. This saw her commence paid work the following day.

The placement offers valuable hands-on experience in a structured retail setting, supporting the development of transferable employability skills such as customer service, teamwork, time management, and workplace communication.

Alongside her employment, Leanorah is participating in the Tertiary Enabling Program through Charles Darwin University, which continues to support the development of foundational skills and future education and employment pathways.

This outcome reflects Leanorah’s commitment to achieving sustainable employment and highlights the effectiveness of coordinated, collaborative employment support in securing her first job.

Under the ISEP program, NAEN is working with its partners to provide First Nations youth in Town Camps of Alice Springs with employment, including apprenticeships and traineeships.
