Group training network of employers celebrating National Skills Week, 24-30 August

As National Skills Week kicks off across Australia, (24–30 August), the National Apprentice Employment Network (NAEN) is celebrating the achievements of the tens of thousands of apprentices and trainees employed through Group Training Organisations (GTOs).

National Skills Week is an opportunity to showcase the tremendous contribution of apprentices, trainees, GTOs, host employers and the training providers that support them.

There are approximately 25,000 apprentices and trainees employed by GTOs across metropolitan, regional, rural and remote Australia, who are placed with more than 100,000 host businesses nationwide.

“National Skills Week is the moment each year we get to shine a light on what our apprentices and trainees achieve, and also celebrate the employers and Group Training Organisations that back them every step of the way,” said Dianne Dayhew, Chief Executive Officer of NAEN.

“This year’s theme – ‘Life Changing’ – perfectly sums up the opportunities opened by apprenticeships and traineeships.

“Whether it’s a mature-age apprentice retraining after a career change, a woman entering a non-traditional trade, or a former apprentice starting their own business, this week is about recognising that skills built through hands-on training in the workplace”.

NAEN is using National Skills Week to highlight the breadth of industries relying on the apprenticeship model and encouraging more businesses to consider hosting an apprentice through a GTO.

Throughout National Skills Week, NAEN and its member GTOs will be sharing apprentice success stories and engaging with schools, parents and career advisers to promote apprenticeships and traineeships as a genuine first-choice career pathway.
